The ewer has a broad-based globular body from which rises a tapered cylindrical neck, strengthened below the lip by a protruding ring. A Turkish silver mount and stopper attached by a chain to a band round the handle, have subsequently been added. A slender, flat, S-shaped handle with dragon's head above and protruding finger-rest below rises from the shoulder to the upper part of the neck. The base is flat and unglazed. Round the body are painted in 'outline-and-wash' technique panels containing scrollwork, between pendant and upright frieze of similar character. Similar lozenge-shaped panels on the neck stand on a network ground. A floral scroll runs down the handle.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"porcelain","id":"AAT10662"}],"techniques":[{"text":"blue and white","id":"x44546"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Porcelain painted in underglaze cobalt blue","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Porcelain","id":"THES48907"}],"styles":[{"text":"Ming","id":"AAT18438"},{"text":"Blue and white (Asia)","id":"x44958"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2010EK3847"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"137 (VA)","id":"THES49876"},"free":"","case":"10","shelf":"3","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"EWER AND STOPPER","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Jingdezhen","id":"x32230"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""},{"place":{"text":"Turkey","id":"x29225"},"association":{"text":"mounted","id":"AAT81370"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"late 16th century-early 17th century","earliest":"1550-01-01","latest":"1650-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"19th century","earliest":"1800-01-01","latest":"1900-12-31"},"association":{"text":"mounted","id":"AAT81370"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Bequeathed by J.
