The surface is often decorated with incised, carved or moulded designs under the glaze. \r\n\r\nStoneware glazed vessels from Zhejiang formed the largest proportion of exports to the Middle East before 1400, but were also widely exported to the Philippines, Indonesia and mainland south-east Asia, where local potters emulated them. The first 'celadon' objects reached Europe from the Middle East; this bowl was acquired in Syria.","physicalDescription":"Stoneware bowl decorated with incised scrolls under the glaze and covered with a green 'celadon' glaze","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"stoneware","id":"x30197"}],"techniques":[{"text":"incised","id":"AAT53847"},{"text":"glazed","id":"AAT53914"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Stoneware with incised decoration and celadon glaze","categories":[{"text":"Food vessels & Tableware","id":"THES48952"},{"text":"Stoneware","id":"THES48890"},{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"}],"styles":[{"text":"Ming","id":"AAT18438"},{"text":"Longquan","id":"x44562"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2008BR9716"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"SHLN","id":"THES49063"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"BOWL","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Zhejiang","id":"x29912"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1368-1450","earliest":"1368-01-01","latest":"1450-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"30.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"13.0","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Purchased from Robert Murdoch Smith, accessioned in 1876.
