Moulded square shape on a base ring. Straight sides flaring outwards. The centre is painted with a scene of a cobbler's shop, all within an eight-sided gold frame. The cobbler is seated on a bench working, an elderly customer is watching and a child stretches for a vase. The sides of the dish are gilded with a neo-classical frieze consisting of a series of stylised tassels linked by a continuous looped line and alternating within a five dot-daisy, all within two plain gold bands. Within the frieze and framing the well of the dish is a running zigzag line with a gold dot in each loop.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Ann & Frederick Peover","id":"A35326"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"x40240"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"bone china","id":"AAT233473"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painted","id":"AAT54216"},{"text":"gilded","id":"AAT53789"},{"text":"moulded","id":"x30076"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Bone china painted with enamels, moulded and gilded","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Bone China","id":"THES48987"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2010ED8343"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"139 (VA)","id":"THES49874"},"free":"","case":"15","shelf":"2","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Dish","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Hanley","id":"x32079"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1818-1822","earliest":"1818-01-01","latest":"1822-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by William Clegg, Esq.","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"22.7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Dish of bone china painted with enamels and gilded, factory of Ann & Frederick Peover, Hanley, 1818-1822","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"cobbler","id":"AAT136719"},{"text":"men","id":"AAT25928"},{"text":"child","id":"x31382"},{"text":"vase","id":"AAT132254"},{"text":"frieze","id":"AAT123582"},{"text":"zigzag","id":"AAT165028"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["C.1-1977"],"accessionNumberNum":"1","accessionNumberPrefix":"C","accessionYear":1977,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-22","recordCreationDate":"2009-06-24","availableToBook":false}}
