Amphora-shaped, the imbricated handles springing form bearded masks. A copy of an antique glass vase, probably of the first century after Christ, known as the \"Portland vase,\" now in the British Museum, which was found in a marble sarcophagus in the Monte del Grano, near Rome. The figures have been interpreted as, on one side, Peleus led to Thetis by Cupid in the presence of Poseidon, on the other, Peleus and Aphrodite watching the sleeping Thetis. On the bottom is a bust with a Phrygian cap, probably Paris.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Copeland & Co.","id":"A9075"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"AAT25230"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"parian (porcelain)","id":"AAT219039"}],"techniques":[{"text":"moulded","id":"AAT53134"},{"text":"relief","id":"AAT53622"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Parian ware, moulded in relief","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Parian ware","id":"THES48916"},{"text":"Great Exhibition","id":"THES48945"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2010EL4751","2017JT8037"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES395836"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Vase","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Stoke-on-Trent","id":"x29185"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1846-1851","earliest":"1846-01-01","latest":"1851-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Transferred from the Museum of Practical Geology, Jermyn Street","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"21","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"14.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Obtained from the Great Exhibition of 1851.
