Cylindrical in shape with a scrolled loop handle. The arms consist of a shield of rococo form charged with a stag, with a plough as crest, and two huntsmen as supporters. Below in a small medallion is Aesop's fable of the Bundle of Sticks, enclosed by the inscription 'UNANIMITY IS THE STRENGTH OF SOCIETY'. The whole composition is supported on a rococo framework with ribbons bearing the words 'WE OBEY' [twice], 'FREEDOM WITH INNOCENCE' and 'INDUSTRY PRODUCETH WEALTH'. On either side are winged figures of Fame and Justice.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Sadler, John","id":"A3047"},"association":{"text":"printer","id":"x30811"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Shaw's Brow pottery, Samuel Gilbody","id":"A6952"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"soft paste porcelain","id":"AAT10665"},{"text":"enamel","id":"AAT14910"}],"techniques":[{"text":"transfer-printed","id":"AAT53922"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Soft-paste porcelain transfer-printed in black enamel","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Porcelain","id":"THES48907"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2009CT3060"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"139 (VA)","id":"THES49874"},"free":"","case":"F","shelf":"3","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Mug","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Liverpool","id":"x30239"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1758-1760","earliest":"1753-01-01","latest":"1762-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Bequeathed by Herbert Allen","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"9.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"7.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'UNANIMITY IS THE STRENGTH OF SOCIETY'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Inscribed"},{"content":"'WE OBEY' [twice], 'FREEDOM WITH INNOCENCE' and 'INDUSTRY PRODUCETH WEALTH'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Inscribed on ribbons"},{"content":"'<i>Sadler, Liverpool</i>'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Signature"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Mug of soft-paste porcelain transfer-printed in black enamel, printed by J.
