Dingwall, DSO through The Art\r\nFund\r\nThis cup and the particular type of deep saucer called “a scodellino” have a floral decoration which is still typical of the First Period at Doccia (1737-1757) as can be seen from the representations of European flowers like roses painted in shades of purple, bluebells and Indian flowers in red and gold. Decorations with naturalistic renderings of flowers were used at Doccia starting in the earliest years of the factory and were particularly influenced by the products of the Du Paquier factory. The association of two types of flower motifs, the use of hard-paste porcelain and the lively polychrome with purple and bright red, suggest a date to the last decade of the First Period.
