Dingwall, DSO through The Art Fund\r\nBibliography: unpublished\r\nThese dishes and the soup dish are decorated with a typical Ginori motif known “al tulipano”, see cat. 54. The execution of the motif, the sketchy painting style and the less refined range of colours suggest that the platters and the soup dish can be dated to the end of the 18th century. The gold highlights which were used in the middle of the 18th century to add shine and elegance to the pieces, have almost completely disappeared. The tulip motif was one of the most representative decorations used at Doccia and continued to be used in the 19th century. For amid-18th-century example see GINORI LISCI 1963, plate X and in this volume cat. 53. In the Register of the museum there is a note that states that the oval dish and soup dish (cat. 56-57) were purchased by Mr Herbert Allen the husband of Maude Louise, who gave them to the museum along with numerous other porcelain objects (fromC.34-1922 toC.185-1922; see also cat. 80, 88, 109).\r\nL.F.M\r\n"}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"flowers","id":"x35571"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"DISH\r\nPorcelain\r\nITALY (DOCCIA); about 1770\r\nGift of Lt.-Col.
