C.33&A-1919\r\ngift: Lt. Col. K. Dingwall, DSO through The Art Fund\r\nCup and saucer of white porcelain with bas-relief scenes and two handles shaped like entwined branches. At the base of the handles there are four twigs on each side. The saucer is decorated with cartouches and festoons of fruits and flowers in bas-relief. On one side of the cup there is the figure of the muse of dancing and song, Terpsichore, taken from the back of a medal made by Lorenzo Maria Weber in 1730 for Gaetano Berenstadt, a famous opera singer (TODERI, VANNEL, 1987, p. 242-243, n. 370). The other figure represents winged Genius which is based on the back of a medal made by Weber around 1730 for the Florentine scholar and patron of the arts Francesco Maria Niccolò Gabburri; (I wish to thank Rita Balleri for this information, TODERI, VANNEL, 1987, p. 242, n. 369).
