King(born in Salinas, Kansas, 1958) in 1993. The designer was inspired by Beaux-Arts architecture and the Art Nouveau style. Respected for his attention to detail and appreciated for their extravagance, King's hats appealed to a wide array of performers, including Laura Branigan or Sir Elton John. Sir Elton John is King's most important collector - he owns over 100 pieces and wore one of these hats in the John Lewis holiday 2018 commercial (the hat appears at 00:30-00:34).","physicalDescription":"Hat made of beaded silk satin and feathers.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"King, Kenneth D.","id":"A39480"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silk satin","id":"x33509"},{"text":"beads","id":"x32809"},{"text":"feathers","id":"x35691"}],"techniques":[{"text":"beading (process)","id":"AAT235440"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Beaded silk satin and feathers","categories":[{"text":"Hats and headwear","id":"THES48943"},{"text":"Clothing","id":"THES48975"},{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2013GB0179"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"CA010","id":"THES388292"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Hat","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"United States","id":"x29333"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1993","earliest":"1993-01-01","latest":"1993-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the designer","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"430","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"30/09/2020","earliest":"2020-09-30","latest":"2020-09-30"},"part":"Maximum height","note":"Measured by conservation"},{"dimension":"Width","value":"300","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"30/09/2020","earliest":"2020-09-30","latest":"2020-09-30"},"part":"Maximum width","note":"Measured by conservation"},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"105","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"30/09/2020","earliest":"2020-09-30","latest":"2020-09-30"},"part":"","note":"Measured by conservation"}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Hat 'Mask' made of beaded silk satin and feathers, designed by Kenneth D.
