A horizontal rectangular table model, made from compression-moulded brown Bakelite with a simulated wood grain. All its corners are rounded. The speaker grille is located on the proper right of the set, it is composed of seven thick horizontal ridges with flat faces and very narrow grooves in between. The bottom of each ridge is flat, the top of each is depressed in the centre into a shallow arc. Below the speaker are three round control knobs with fluted edges. There is a fourth control knob on the same line, toward the proper left, beneath a recessed angular tuning scale. This scale is faced with glass and printed in red, white and green for LW, MW and SW, with the Westminster insignia of Big Ben in the centre. A 'magic eye' tuer is at the top of the scale. The set stands on two integrally-moulded ridges, running from front to rear.\r\n","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Belcher Ltd","id":"AUTH337903"},"association":{"text":"manufacturers","id":"AAT25230"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Bakelite","id":"AAT14544"},{"text":"phenolic","id":"AAT14540"},{"text":"glass","id":"AAT10797"}],"techniques":[{"text":"compression moulding","id":"AAT54068"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Compression-moulded Bakelite, glass","categories":[{"text":"Household objects","id":"THES48939"},{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"},{"text":"Plastic","id":"THES49026"},{"text":"Audio equipment","id":"THES49027"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"FWK","id":"THES48597"},"images":["2018LC0497"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES341587"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Radio","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"manufactured","id":"x29350"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1946-1948","earliest":"1946-01-01","latest":"1948-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Width","value":"50","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"30.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"27","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"Measurements taken from paper records - not checked on object.","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Purchased in 1974 by the Circulation Department, from Gustav Metzger [74/1755].
