The Arts and Crafts movement, with its interest in handicrafts, revived the craft amonst leisured practitioners and many aristocratic houses acquired spinning wheels.  This wheel was given to the Museum by H.R.H.Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll, who had used it herself as a young girl. ","physicalDescription":"A spinning wheel of ash, the legs and other elements baluster-turned, the drive wheel with sixteen spokes with decorative turning.  The drive wheel, to which the treadle is attached by a footman, has a wide moulded rim and sixteen turned spindles. It rests on a platform ('the table') supported on three turned baluster legs. Other elements of the wheel are also baluster turned.
