The serpentine scrolled top is supported by four 'S'-curves ending in scroll feet, which are joined front and back by square 'C'-scrolls, decorated in the centre by an acanthus leaf and each joined to the seat by a roundel enclosing a coat of arms. This example has the carved coat of arms of the owner set in a roundel beneath the seat (possibly the Fitch family of Thorpe Hall, Lincolnshire, or a branch of the same family at Danbury Place or Woodham Walter, Essex).
