At the foot of the cross the Franciscan saint, St Bernard of Siena is shown kneeling before a desk with a book and the symbol of the passion.","physicalDescription":"Pearwood, carving. The crucifix rises from a rocky grotto, in which there kneels a bishop before a table. On the table lies a book, a crown of thorns, a rod and a whip. At the foot of the crucifix are a serpent and a skull. The whole rests on three knobs, one of which carries the signature WITZ. The base of the grotto is slightly broken and the hands and the big toe of the figure of Christ are broken off. Also the left hand of the bishop.
