Such images of the Trinity were extremely popular in fourteenth-century England. This group has been carved from the outside of the tusk and the figures have a concave back with the exception of God the Father's head which is flat.","physicalDescription":"Ivory, carved in high relief with the background has been cut away. God the Father, seated on a plain bench-like throne, in a long flowing robe holding before him a Cross with the figure of Christ crucifed. The Dove proceeding from the mouth of the Father touches the head of Christ with its beak. Damaged on the left side, both arms of the Father have been broken away.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"ivory","id":"AAT11857"}],"techniques":[{"text":"carved","id":"AAT53149"},{"text":"relief","id":"AAT53622"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Elephant ivory","categories":[{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"},{"text":"Religion","id":"THES48900"},{"text":"Christianity","id":"THES48978"},{"text":"Reliefs","id":"THES49035"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":["2013GD4560","2013GD4522","2006AD3372","2017JV3642"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"020","id":"THES395357"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Panel","id":"x47676"}],[{"text":"Relief","id":"AAT53622"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"probably"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1320-1330","earliest":"1315-01-01","latest":"1330-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"16.1","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"In the possession of Henry Oppenheimer, London, by 1923; sold Christie's London, 16 July 1936, Oppenheimer sale, lot 180; Given by Mr George Durlacher, London, in 1937.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Panel relief, ivory, depicting the Trinity, probably French (Paris or Northern France), about 1320-1330","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Porter, D.A. Ivory Carving in Later Medieval England 1200-1400. State University of New York at Binghampton, PhD Thesis 1974, cat. no. 39."},{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Annual Review 1937. pp.3-4, pl. 3b."},{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Burlington Fine Arts Club.
