The composition is a later work of Antonio Rossellino and close in date to the tomb of Mary of Aragon at Naples and the Nori Madonna in Santa Croce, Florence.","physicalDescription":"The Virgin and Child, painted stucco, probably after a marble. The Virgin is seated on a low throne looking downwards at the Child which rests at her right arm, supported by her left hand. She wears a dark blue cloak over a high braided light red dress with blue cuffs. The child nestles his head against her breast. The Virgin's head has been broken and repaired and the figure would appears to have been repainted several times.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Rossellino, Antonio","id":"A1970"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"x40240"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"stucco","id":"AAT14966"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painted","id":"x30138"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Painted stucco","categories":[{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"},{"text":"Religion","id":"THES48900"},{"text":"Christianity","id":"THES48978"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":["2026PL3569","2026PL3573","2026PL3570","2026PL3572","2026PL3571","2017JW1091"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES396300"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Virgin and Child","id":"x31507"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Italy","id":"x28927"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"c. 1475-1500","earliest":"1470-01-01","latest":"1500-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"49","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"17.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"12.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Purchased at Sotheby's for £26.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Stucco pigmented statuette of the Virgin and Child, after Antonio Rossellino, Italy, c. 1475-1500","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Pope-Hennessy, John. <u>Catalogue of Italian Sculpture in the Victoria and Albert Museum.</u> London: Her Majesty's Stationary Office, 1964. pp.131-2"},{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Pope-hennessy, John.
