They are likely representing two Saints, although it was formerly suggested they were Shepherds. The busts were modelled by Giovanni Francesco Gonnelli (1603-c.1664), also called Il Cieco da Gambassi, active in Florence and Rome during the first half of the 17th century.\r\n\r\nGonnelli was an Italian sculptor born in Gambassi (according to Baldinucci). In 1632 he apparently became blind and therefore was known as 'Cieco da Gambassi'. There is some doubt as to the extent of his disability, since in 1637 he followed a course at the Florence Academy, and he later made portrait busts of the Grand-Duke Ferdinand II and Pope Urban VIII.","physicalDescription":"This terracotta bust, representing a male Saint, has its head upturned, looking to the spectator's left.
