An astragal around the lip, with three astraglas separating the splayed rim from the body. The body is decorated with three reliefs depicting half figures of St John the Baptist, the Virgin and Child and St Anthony of Padua. The heads of the two saints have an outline of a halo in relief and the figures of the Christ Child each have a halo in the form of rays. The reliefs rest on an astrgal and the foot is distinguished from the body by a torus moulding.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"bronze","id":"AAT10957"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Leaded high-tin bronze","categories":[{"text":"Tools & Equipment","id":"THES48883"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"BP","id":"THES49690"},"free":"","case":"CB5","shelf":"12","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"mortar","id":"AAT24724"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Italy","id":"x28927"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"sixteenth century","earliest":"1500-01-01","latest":"1600-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"14.7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"16.7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"rim","note":""},{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"8.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"base","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Given by Dr W.L Hildburgh, F.S.A,","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Mortar with half figures of the Virgin and Child, St. John the Baptist and St Anthony of Padua.
