The obverse of this medal represents Britannia wearing a helmet seated on an aeroplane, holding an eagle in the right hand. The reverse shows a profile head of King George V. by Bertram Backennal. \r\n\r\nEdward Carter Preston (1884-1965) was a sculptor, painter and medallist, born Liverpool. He apprenticed to E. R. Latham of Renshaw Street, glass decorators, and afterwards worked for a time for a furnishing firm. In 1905 he was a founder member of the Sandon Terrace Studio where Gerard Chowne was his chief mentor and whose ideas formed the basis of this development.
