The total number struck was nearly 8000. It commemorates the signing of the Armistice and portrays the Cenotaph - a huge monolithic stone slab topped by the representations of a coffin in stone - the national memorial to the dead on Whitehall. The Cenotaph (Greek word for empty tomb) was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and had been unveiled by King Georg V as part of a funeral procession of the Unknown Soldier on 11 November 1920. It is undecorated save for a carved wreath on each end and the words \"The Glorious Dead\", chosen by Rudyard Kipling.","physicalDescription":"Obverse: The Cenotaph with three furled standards.
