With a glazed door (the glass and locks apparently 19th century) which is fitted with a lock and key, accessing a recess lined with red silk velvet of 19th century date. Fixing holes suggest that a flat object was pinned onto the velvet lining.\n\nModifications\nA section of engraved shell depicting a monk with a cross, at lower right corner (bottom) appears to be a replaced insert from another source, since the character of the engraving differs from the other veneers.\n\nHanging Method\nThe frame is fitted with three modern mirror plates. Behind the top two are squared mortices with signs of cord(?) wear, but it is not clear how these functioned.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"makers","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"wood","id":"AAT11914"},{"text":"mother of pearl","id":"AAT11835"},{"text":"glass","id":"AAT10797"},{"text":"velvet","id":"AAT133711"}],"techniques":[{"text":"veneering","id":"AAT53878"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Wood with mother of pearl, engraved; with glazed door, recess lined with silk velvet","categories":[{"text":"Woodwork","id":"THES48877"},{"text":"Frames","id":"THES48949"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"FWK","id":"THES48597"},"images":["2017KE4404","2017KE4457","2017KE4406","2017KE4407","2015HU5873","2017KE4408","2015HU5874","2015HU5875","2015HU5876","2015HU5877","2015HU5878","2015HU5879","2015HU5880"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES342529"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES342529"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"frame","id":"AAT189814"}],[{"text":"key","id":"AAT33579"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Jerusalem","id":"x32445"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"probably"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1800-1875","earliest":"1800-01-01","latest":"1875-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"probably"}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Bequeathed by John Jones","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"56.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":"converted from department register"},{"dimension":"Width","value":"50.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":"converted from department register"}],"dimensionsNote":"From file (HW): 22 1/8 ins. x 19 3/4 ins.","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"John Jones Bequest.
