Prutscher was a versatile designer who trained with the architect, Josef Hoffmann. The striking, curved surfaces and well-proportioned forms across the whole service embody Prutscher’s quest for Gesamtkunstwerk, or total work of art. This was a central tenet of the Wiener Werkstätte whereby members sought to unite the disciplines of painting, architecture and decorative arts in their designs.
