Growing up in a goldsmith's family, Persson founded his own studio in Stockholm in 1942, and during his long career he designed objects in various materials such as silver, iron, brass, glass and plastic. Besides numerous households in Scandinavia and elsewhere, Persson’s designs can be found in the collections of many museums, including New York’s MoMA, the Musée des Arts Décoratif in Paris as well as the Victoria &amp; Albert Museum.","physicalDescription":"The handle is a thick strip of metal with a rounded edge and cambered sides, reducing at the bolster to form the blade. The upper edge of the blade is a straight continuation of the handle and terminates at a rounded point. The cutting edge, which is serrated, curves away from the tip in a wide arc and then curves inward and away from the end to run parallel with the upper edge into the bolster. The surface in common with every other piece in this service is uniformly highly polished.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Sigurd Persson","id":"A10568"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"SKIB","id":"AUTH350982"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"stainless steel","id":"AAT10920"}],"techniques":[{"text":"stamping (forming)","id":"AAT53138"},{"text":"polishing","id":"AAT53867"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"","categories":[{"text":"Eating","id":"THES48963"},{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"},{"text":"Tableware & cutlery","id":"THES48888"}],"styles":[{"text":"Modernist","id":"AAT21474"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2023NN8531"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"017","id":"THES412516"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Knife (culinary tool)","id":"AAT199820"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Sweden","id":"x29198"},"association":{"text":"designed and made","id":"x39722"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1979","earliest":"1979-01-01","latest":"1979-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed and made","id":"x39722"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"M.27A-1989","id":"O294709"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"M.27B-1989","id":"O294708"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"M.27C-1989","id":"O294707"},"association":"Set"}],"creditLine":"Given by Sigurd Persson","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"21","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"2.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"maximum","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"SIKAB 18/8 Design: Sigurd Persson","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Stamped along the upper edge of the blade."}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Knife, (part of a cutlery service), stainless steel, manufactured by SIKAB, designed by Sigurd Persson, Sweden, 1979.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"<u>Sigurd Persson Design</u>, Stockholm, 1984. ill.
