Pugin for the Medieval Court at the Great Exhibition 1851. The stove was constructed of \"majolica-glazed\" tiles set in an iron frame made by Hardman of Birmingham, some of the upper tiles such as the Museums examples, being perforated. Acquired by the Museum of Practical Geology (Jermyn Street Collection) from the Exhibition, after which the stove was apparently dismantled. Transferred to the V&A in 1901.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Stove tile, relief-moulded earthenware with majolica glaze. Designed by A.W.N. The 'majolica-glazed' tiles, three centimetres thick and richly moulded, harness techniques developed by Minton's French artist, Léon Arnoux.
