C.56-1960\r\ngift: Dr Bernard Watney\r\nSoup dish with oriental floral motifs and, perhaps, a bird of paradise in blue, red and gold. The decoration of the dish is one of many inspired by Japanese and Chinese porcelain that were in use at the Ginori factory in the last quarter of the 18th century. There are other plates and also a soup tureen with this type of decoration (A. Biancalana, in LAMANIFATTURA TOSCANA DEIGINORI 1998, p. 154-155, cat. 84-85). In the past, two plates similar to this one in the Museum of Decorative Arts in the Castello Sforzesco in Milan (inv. P.109-110) were attributed to the Cozzi factory in Venice (LISE 1975, p. 25, cat. 2-3). The arrangement and decorative typology and the colours used in this plate suggest that it was made at the Ginori factory sometime between 1775 and 1800; the use of masso bastardo (see cat. 63),moreover, is a further confirmation of this attribution.\r\nA.B.\r\nBibliography: unpublished\r\n"}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"flowers","id":"x35571"},{"text":"bird","id":"x35043"},{"text":"prunus","id":"x42901"},{"text":"plants","id":"AAT132376"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"PLATE\r\nTin-glaze porcelain in Japanese Imari style\r\nITALY (Doccia); ca. 1770-1780\r\nGift of Dr Bernard Watney\r\nC.56-1960\r\n(Label draft attributed to John V.
