She sold it to Donald Bros. on 23rd August 1943 for 5 Guineas. \r\nMary A. Harper was a Birmingham based commercial pattern designer for textiles and wallpaper. She completed her studies at the Birmingham Municipal School of Art shortly before the start of war in 1939, interrupted her career ambitions as a textile designer. She continued her practice as a commercial freelance designer throughout the war before taking up employment with Dunlop in 1947 where she designed pattern for PVC for the Festival of Britain, see Circ.57-1968 and Circ.58-1968. Her uncle, father, mother and cousins taught in a range of capacities at the Birmingham Municipal School of Art. Her father, Frank Sidney Harper (1879 - 1929) was the Art Master there and known as a distinguished watercolour artist. Her Mother Mary Elizabeth Blakeman Harper also taught applied Arts in the city's branch schools.\r\n","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Furnishing fabric 'Medina' of screen-printed crash, Mary A.
