completing a ship, its captain and pilot; receipt of payment for other players' cards\nForfeits: payment for not being able to lay a proper card down; also penalty for not following the lead as stated.\nNo. of Players: 5\nEquipment required: large and small cards supplied; counters\n\nRules:\nThe rules are printed on a single sheet of paper at the foot of which is an advertisement for other games issued by the publishers.\n\nThe names of the ships shown on the playing sheet and on the five large cards are:\nThe Washington\nThe Pelican\nThe Napoleon\nThe Sultan\nThe Melbourne\n\nThe 35 cards which remain consist of five groups of seven cards for each ship. Each group contains a card showing a pilot-boat, the captain and the crew, and five cards of materials in the cargo. In the case of the Washington these are:-\nGold, Indigo, Cochineal\nRice, Cotton, Tobacco\nTamarinds, Sugar , Pomegranates\nTurpentine, Sassafras, Red-wood\nPine Apples, Cocoa, Sarsaparilla\n\nOUTWARD BOUND OR SHIPS AND THEIR CARGOES, A GAME NEW A NEW EDITION\n\nDIRECTIONS FOR PLAYING.\nThe five large cards are to be taken, one each by five players, and placed open before them on the table.\nThe board or sheet is to be placed in the middle of the table.\nCounters are to be distributed in the usual manner to each player.\nThe dealer, after shuffling the pack of small cards, must distribute them in equal portions to the players. The dealer must put one counter into each of the compartments on the board.\nThe player on the left hand of the dealer may then commence the game by leading a card in his hand - of course if he has any belonging to his own ship he would lead it, in preference; this card must be followed by the next players on the left hand, or if he has not got a corresponding card, he must pay one counter to the division on the board, and then lead any other card in his hand; if it should belong to his own ship the next player on the left hand may follow, but if he is obliged to lead any other ship, the player having that ship places the card by the side of his large card and this player will then have the lead; if he cannot play a card belonging to his ship he may lead any other, but in this case pay to the pool in the same manner as the previous player. The game proceeds in the same way until a player obtains his full 'cargo' of five cards, and his 'Captain' and ' Pilot', when he may take the counters on the corresponding division on the board, and receive one counter from each player for every card they have in their hands unplayed.\nThe player who gives a 'Captain' or 'Pilot' to another player, must receive two counters for this accommodation.\nThe deal is taken in rotation by the players, going to the left hand, each dealer must dress the board with five counters.\nAfter a round or two, the players will very soon perceive that there is great interest and skill in the game; if they see any player's complement is completed except one card, they should avoid sending him off, if possible, but sometimes they will be compelled to send him off by following the lead or by having only one Card left.\nWhen a player has played all his cards, he is out of the game and may lay his ship and cards aside. If it should happen that only two players remain at the last, the winning player sweeps the board, that is takes all the counters in the five compartments.\nCare must be taken that the leads are properly followed, always going to the left hand.\nAny player detected in not following lead must pay a forfeit of ten counters to the pool..\n\n\nList of games also published by E & MA Ogilvy\n\nNEW GAMES AND DISSECTED PUZZLES\nTHE FANCY BAZAAR OR ARISTOCRATIC TRADERS A COMIC GAME, \nPrice 3s.6d, large size 5s.\nCOMIC QUARTETTES OR SMILES AND FROWNS A GAME\nPrice in mahogany, full coloured 7s 6d; smaller size 3s 6d.\n\n\nRules placement: sheet of rules","briefDescription":"Board game, 'Outward Bound' by E. & M.
