It was devised by Michael Kindred and Malcolm Goldsmith for Waddington Games. It is played with gold and silver columns, representing the building of empires, and coins representing wealth, on a board marked with similarly coloured circles and diamonds. The aim is to move the columns on one colour into a square shape anywhere in the central part of the board. However, moves may be attempted only if there is a coin of either colour on a diamond adjacent to the column and a vacant space of the same colour. The coins may also be moved to help or hinder the players, and traps may be arranged by using the coins to block a column, which must then be removed to the perimeter starting point. The rules are rather complicated and this game was not one of Waddington's successes.","physicalDescription":"Design: printed paper on card; folded; back with black paper; printed to represent marble\nNo. of squares: 50 large,32small\nSquares illustrated: none\nSquare numbering: none\nSquares titled: none\nSubject of starting square: none \nSubject of ending square: none","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"John Waddington Ltd.","id":"A4538"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"AAT25230"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper fiber product","id":"AAT14109"},{"text":"card","id":"x30344"},{"text":"printing inks","id":"x30571"}],"techniques":[{"text":"printing","id":"AAT53319"},{"text":"folding","id":"AAT247923"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Printed paper on card, folded","categories":[{"text":"Games","id":"THES48947"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"YVA","id":"THES48593"},"images":["2006AU3654"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"SR001","id":"THES340938"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Board game","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"published","id":"x30682"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1984","earliest":"1984-01-01","latest":"1984-12-31"},"association":{"text":"published","id":"x30682"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Waddington Games Ltd","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"38.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"38.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Somewhat of a cross between a Hunt Game and an Alignment Game.\nDevised by Michael Kindred and Malcolm Goldsmith.\nShown in the Waddington 1984 catalogue\n\nCGG-Games & Puzzles, 1991","historicalContext":"Rewards: ?\nForfeits: ?\nNo. of Players: any\nEquipment required: 8 corinthian columns; 4 gold metal, 4 silver metal\n12 coins of coloured metal, 6 gold and 6 silver; with a pressed design on one side-Caesar's head and the words CAESARIS LVDVS\n\nRules:\nIt is played with gold and silver columns, representing the building of empires and coins, representing wealth, on a board marked with similarly coloured circles and diamonds.
