During the years of the Cultural Revolution the factory produced many propaganda images based on portraits and photographs of leaders.\r\n\r\nThis woven silk picture depicts Mao writing a 'big character poster' or <i>dazibao</i> authorising Red Guards to challenge the establishment. <i>Dazibao</i> were propaganda posters which were written in large characters, usually with Chinese brushes, and pasted on walls or boards.
