The majority of its tapestries are large-scale coporate and public commissions, but there has also been a demand from individual clients keen to own small examples of work. In order to make its tapestries more widely available, the workshop put together a collection of specially designed small tapestries, to be woven in limited editions. This is a prototype, woven on a domestic wire rack and serves as a preliminary idea by the designer for a miniature tapestry which the V&A exhibited and subsequently purchased in 1992 (T.2-1995).","physicalDescription":"Model for \"Mask\" tapestry. The tapestry is attached to a wire frame standing on four wire legs. There is a woven mask attached to the centre of the frame. To the left of the mask, there is a fork made from grey cotton, a grey and silver thread and a black and white thread. The shape is formed by wrapping the threads around the wire frame itself. To the right of the mask there is a matching knife. The central motif has a square head with a large, slightly raised mouth and rectangular shoulders.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Walker, Murray","id":"A3178"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Jolles, Cresside","id":"A3179"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Victorian Tapestry Workshop","id":"A3198"},"association":{"text":"makers","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"cotton yarn","id":"x30425"},{"text":"wire","id":"AAT11063"}],"techniques":[{"text":"weaving","id":"AAT53642"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Wool tapestry woven on wire frame","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Tapestry","id":"THES48887"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2016JR0309","2016JR0310","2016JR0311"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"013","id":"THES310028"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Tapestry","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Melbourne","id":"x32322"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1986","earliest":"1986-01-01","latest":"1986-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":""},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"T.2-1995","id":"O72957"},"association":"Original"}],"creditLine":"Given by the Victorian Tapestry Workshop","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Width","value":"20","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"25","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'Victorian Tapestry Workshop/Artist:Murray Walker/Weaver: Cresside Jolles/1986'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"English","medium":"","method":"","position":"Paper adhesive label at the center of the back of the wire frame.","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"Label","note":"Label; English; Paper adhesive label at the center of the back of the wire frame."}],"objectHistory":"The original weaving, \"Mask\", also in the Museum's collection was produced in 1986 for an exhibition held to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Victorian Tapestry Workshop.
