This acquisition information reflects that found in the Museum records (Asia Department registers and/or Central Inventory) as part of a 2023 provenance research project.\r\n\r\nRP 1911-1281M","historicalContext":"Those polychromed earthenware tiles depict scenes from the Buddhist Jataka stories which recount the previous incarnations of the Buddha.  They are however set in what appear to be contemporary Sinhalese settings, with the palacial architecture and court costumes reflecting the style of the late Kandyan period.
