For these reasons it may be suggested that the four reliefs were made in the first half of the 19th century. They were perhaps historicizing pieces, possibly made in about 1830-40 in a workshop which was highly receptive to the neo-Gothic style, perhaps to decorate a pulpit (as would have been appropriate for these subjects), and quickly removed from their original context, or never used.\r\nAlternatively the present pieces may have been made to deceive, and sold by an unscrupulous dealer as genuine 15th century pieces.","physicalDescription":"First piece of a four part panel relief carved in limewood showing St. Luke in profile seated on a folding chair. He reads a book on a portable lectern which is attached to the cupboard facing him. An open book is propped up on top of the cupboard with further books laid out on the shelves, while an ox with a scroll in its mouth appears in the niche beneath.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"limewood","id":"x42540"}],"techniques":[{"text":"glazing","id":"AAT53914"},{"text":"carving","id":"AAT53149"},{"text":"relief","id":"AAT53622"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Glazed limewood carved in relief","categories":[{"text":"Christianity","id":"THES48978"},{"text":"Religion","id":"THES48900"},{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"},{"text":"Reliefs","id":"THES49035"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":["2006AW3669","2006AW3668"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"007","id":"THES398275"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Relief","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Germany","id":"x28873"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1830-1840","earliest":"1825-01-01","latest":"1840-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"4841-1858","id":"O248640"},"association":"Part"},{"object":{"text":"4842-1858","id":"O248663"},"association":"Part"},{"object":{"text":"4844-1858","id":"O248676"},"association":"Part"}],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"56.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"48.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Formerly in the David Falcke Collection, London.
