They combine whimsical branches with expansive lotus leaves often ending in a flame shape. Blooms and lotus pads are fanciful. The inner rim band consists of a reserve-painted scroll with ruyis. The well is plain. A similar floral composition to the outer decoration fills the centre. There is no mark. Colours are two blues and black.\r\nAlthough mended and with a few cracks, the large bowl remains an outstanding example of an original Persian approach to the Chinese lotus theme.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"fritware","id":"x29419"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painted","id":"AAT54216"},{"text":"glazed","id":"AAT53914"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Fritware, painted in underglaze blue and black","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"}],"styles":[{"text":"Safavid","id":"AAT21712"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"MES","id":"THES48607"},"images":["2007BM7551"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"137 (VA)","id":"THES49876"},"free":"","case":"29","shelf":"1","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Bowl","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Iran","id":"x30220"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1630-60","earliest":"1630-01-01","latest":"1660-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"17.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"44.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Bowl, fritware, underglaze painted in blue and black with stylized foliage and flowers; Iran, 1630-60.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Crowe, Yolande. <u>Persia and China: Safavid blue and white ceramics in the Victoria & Albert Museum 1501-1738</u>.
