He borrowed from Neoclassical ornament but his designs also included Egyptian and Chinoiseries motifs.\r\n\r\nDagoty's elegant wares won him the patronage of Empress Joséphine. At the height of production, in 1807, he employed over a hundred workers, and exported his porcelain to Russia. After the fall of the Empire, manufacture continued under the protection of the Duchesse d'Angloulême, the only surviving child of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.\r\n\r\nBetween 1816 and 1820, Dagoty worked in partnership with François Maurice Honoré. In 1817, Dagoty and Honoré received a commission from President James Monroe of the United States for a dinner service and matching dessert service.","physicalDescription":"Design for a mug with red ground, with rim and spiral-shaped handle lined in gold, and with Chinoiserie motif of figures, trees and pagoda; the mug is supported on cuboid-shaped animal's paws.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Dagoty","id":"A12419"},"association":{"text":"Designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[{"text":"drawing","id":"AAT54196"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Pencil & gouache.","categories":[{"text":"Designs","id":"THES48968"}],"styles":[{"text":"Empire","id":"AAT21269"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2017JU5071"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLD","id":"THES49658"},"free":"","case":"C","shelf":"120","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"print","id":""}],[{"text":"drawing","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Paris","id":"x29068"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca.1810","earliest":"1805-01-01","latest":"1814-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"10.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"11.1","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Design for a mug by Dagoty, ca. 1810.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Dagoty à Paris: La manufacture de porcelaine de l'impératrice, by Régine de Plinval de Guillebon (Paris: Somogy Éditions d'Art, 2006)."}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["3234:4"],"accessionNumberNum":"3234","accessionNumberPrefix":"","accessionYear":null,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-21","recordCreationDate":"2009-06-10","availableToBook":false}}
