It probably served as a frontispiece to an image shrine or altar, or may have hung along the edge of a canopy. The subject, one of the most popular in Hindu mythology, is the battle in which Rama defeats the ten-headed demon king Ravanna. It is illustrated in a continuous narrative. Aband of garuda and lion masks fill the upper border and masks alternating with coloured banners appear below. The style of the figures bears close comparison to those in paintings of the Bhaktapur school, to which this embroidery appears to be closely related.","briefDescription":"Temple panel of embroidered cotton with silks, Nepal, 15th century-16th century","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"PUBLISHED - R.
