The panle is bordered by two bands of alternating 'eye' and flower motifs. The fragmentary panel probably adorned a temple or secular building in East Java, Indonesia. The stylisation of the human figures, and particularly the frontal treatment of their borides with the heads in three-quarter profile, is a convention preserved to this day in the shadow puppets (wayang kulit) of Java and Bali.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"stone","id":"AAT11176"}],"techniques":[{"text":"carving","id":"AAT53149"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Stone relief carving","categories":[{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"},{"text":"Architecture","id":"THES48993"},{"text":"Daily Life","id":"THES393192"}],"styles":[{"text":"Majapahit","id":"AAT18739"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2006AU4464"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"003","id":"THES368216"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Relief","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Java","id":"x30310"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"east"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"14th century","earliest":"1300-01-01","latest":"1400-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"23","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"16.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Bought from Spink & Son for £4600. in 1989. from Dutch Collector, Mrs. Hubberling of Rotterdam who inherited from her father who was a civil servant in Java in the 1930's.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Stone relief panel sculpture, Majapahit style, East Java, Indonesia, ca. 14th century","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"J.Boisselier, Majapahit, Paris, Beurdeley & Cie, 1990."}],"production":"East Java, Indonesia","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["IS.12-1989"],"accessionNumberNum":"12","accessionNumberPrefix":"IS","accessionYear":1989,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-10-01","recordCreationDate":"2000-02-13","availableToBook":true}}
