Design of a naked female torso on a red mat, against a banded blue ground. The design was drawn in ink on the biscuit-fired body, then glazed using regular glazes: cobalt blue, copper red and green, zinc white. \r\n\r\nThe maker's intentions behind creating the piece were to unite the supine body into one with the sky and the earth, to unite a variety of different skills and to unite traditional with contemporary allusion. At the same time, he wanted to bring together both painting and potting skills, and using the transmutation and flowing capacities of high-firing glazes to achieve a painterly result.\r\n\nBox: Notes by maker in register","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Qu, Lei Lei","id":"AUTH354054"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"stoneware","id":"x30197"}],"techniques":[{"text":"glazed","id":"AAT53914"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Stoneware with coloured glazes","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Porcelain","id":"THES48907"},{"text":"Art Pottery","id":"THES49021"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2010EA1006"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"137","id":"THES49876"},"free":"","case":"15","shelf":"1","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Dish","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Zibo","id":"x32226"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1984","earliest":"1984-01-01","latest":"1984-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"25.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Bought from the maker in London.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"'Body of a reclining woman' dish, stoneware with coloured glazes, made by Qu Leilei, China (Zibo, Shangdong province), 1984","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Notes by maker in register"},{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"'Daily Telegraph' 25.1.1986.
