The visually intense patterns are produced by the relationships between each tile and its neighbours. Brown’s work also explores ‘cellular automata’, simple systems that can evolve and propagate themselves. The complex weaving and knotting of lines in this computer-generated plotter drawing is reminiscent of Islamic patterning.  The protruding knots lend the drawing an illusion of depth.
