It forms part of a series entitled The Cube: Theme and Variations (T.V.C.). The three dimensional effect is produced by repeating a small number of characters, some of them in a bold typeface.\r\n\r\nZajec studied painting in Ljubljana, Slovenia, then at Ohio University, in the United States. He started to use computers in 1968, at a time when he was experimenting with the concept of redundancy in his paintings. He returned to Italy in 1970 and worked at the University of Trieste. In 1980 he moved back to the United States, where he founded the computer art programme at Syracuse University. \r\n\r\nZajec has created and exhibited many computer graphic works, plus interactive projects and digital films. He took part in the ground-breaking Tendencies 4 exhibition in Zagreb (1968 -9) and also showed five works from the T.V.C. series in Tendencies 5 (1973).\n\nMatjaz Hmeljak has worked as computer programmer, artist and Computer Science university professor. Matjaz Hmeljak and Edward Zajec met during Zajec's time in Italy, and worked on four computer art four projects together between 1970 to 1980: TVC (1970-1973) as shown here, as well as Marko Sections (1974), Logical Moments in Color LMC (1975), Matrix (1976), HPS (1980).","physicalDescription":"This square format computer print-out (or impact print on fanfold paper) shows an image created by repeating various symbols. The five characters I - = * and 8 are used to create cuboid shapes that have a simple 3-D effect. The series title, number and date and included at the bottom, along with the surnames of the programmer and artist. The fanfold paper is signed and dated by the artist in pencil. The sheet is folded around a card to create its square format.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Zajec, Edward","id":"A29346"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Hmeljak, Matjaz","id":"A37385"},"association":{"text":"computer programmer","id":"AAT25819"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"},{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"}],"techniques":[{"text":"impact printing","id":"x43993"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Impact print on fanfold paper","categories":[{"text":"Computer Art","id":"THES49037"},{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2009BX6572"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"MB2E","shelf":"DR51","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"print","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Trieste","id":"x39148"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1971","earliest":"1971-01-01","latest":"1971-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"E.970-2008","id":"O240278"},"association":"Version"}],"creditLine":"Given by the American Friends of the V&A through the generosity of Patric Prince","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"28","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"21.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'T.V.C.==80=38839==71'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"refers to the series title, the number and date","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Inscribed at bottom line of print."},{"content":"'PRG==HMELJAK==ART==ZAJEC=='","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Inscribed at bottom line of print.
