His work often expresses a state between imagination and reality, and in his paintings he uses a muted palette to create simplified landscapes and still lifes that verge on abstraction.\r\n\r\nKipniss experimented with etching and lithography in the 1960s, but in the 1980s turned to mezzotint and drypoint to achieve richer darks and more subtle light effects.
