The dark grey unglazed stoneware teapot is of squat globular form and has a short spout and a longer side-handle attached at right-angles to each other. There is a mesh insert inside the teapot to prevent the tea leaves from blocking the spout. The two round tea cups are unglazed externally but have a pale turquoise glaze on their interiors. The round saucers and oblong tray consist of  beechwood cores around which long, thin beechwood strips have been wound. These were turned, stained black and then polished so that the grain of the timber and the striated pattern of the tightly wound strips are visible.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Shin Azumi","id":"C5989"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Unglazed and partially glazed stoneware; turned, stained and polished beechwood","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Stoneware","id":"THES48890"}],"styles":[{"text":"Heisei","id":"x36359"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2011FB7550","2011FB7551"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"009","id":"THES364966"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"009","id":"THES364966"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"009","id":"THES364966"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"009","id":"THES364966"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"009","id":"THES364966"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"009","id":"THES364966"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"009","id":"THES364966"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Tray","id":""}],[{"text":"Saucer","id":""}],[{"text":"Saucer","id":""}],[{"text":"Tea cup","id":""}],[{"text":"Tea cup","id":""}],[{"text":"Lid","id":""}],[{"text":"Teapot","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""},{"place":{"text":"Tokoname","id":"x32200"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"ceramics"},{"place":{"text":"Aomori","id":"x32814"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"saucers and tray"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2006","earliest":"2006-01-01","latest":"2006-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"2008","earliest":"2008-01-01","latest":"2008-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the designer","dimensions":[],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Tea set; two tea cups, two saucers, lidded teapot and oblong tray, stoneware and beechwood, designed by Shin Azumi, London, 2006, for Yauatcha, made in Japan, 2008.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["FE.7-2009","FE.5:2-2009","FE.6:2-2009","FE.6:1-2009","FE.5:1-2009","FE.4:2-2009","FE.4:1-2009"],"accessionNumberNum":"7","accessionNumberPrefix":"FE","accessionYear":2009,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE","Tray","Saucer [1]","Saucer [2]","Tea cup [1]","Tea cup [2]","Lid","Teapot"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-02-16","recordCreationDate":"2009-05-18","availableToBook":true}}
