The handle begins at the junction of neck and shoulder with an elaborate double scroll attachment, and consists of a flat strip, rejoining the side below the shoulder. The flattened hexagonal spout sits on the shoulder and below is joined to the neck by an 'S' shaped support; the tip is broken off. The base is inset and covered with a purplish-brown dressing. The porcelain is coarse and greyish-white.\r\nPainted round the belly is a broad chrysanthemum scroll, with a classical border above and 'lotus panels' below. On the neck are clouds on a hatched ground with hatching on the spout and handle.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Porcelain","id":"AAT10662"}],"techniques":[{"text":"Painting","id":"x30598"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Porcelain painted in underglaze cobalt blue","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Porcelain","id":"THES48907"}],"styles":[{"text":"Blue and white","id":"x43841"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2009CR0861"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"137","id":"THES49876"},"free":"","case":"J","shelf":"2","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"EWER","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Vietnam","id":"x30019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"15th century","earliest":"1400-01-01","latest":"1500-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"17.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"18.1","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"From register: Height 7 in; Maximum length 7 1/8 in.","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Porcelain ewer painted in underglaze cobalt blue, Vietnam, 15th century","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Ayers, John, Far Eastern Ceramics in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
