That was a great step forward, as 100 years earlier the Court's only concern was to ensure that Jingdezhen delivered its quota of imperial porcelain. Even the term gongsi (literally 'officially managed') was a new one.\r\n\r\nIt has been recorded that the Jiangxi Porcelain Company was set up in 1910, but the mark Daqing Guangxu nian zhi shows that the organisation was already in existence in 1908 by the latest, as 1908 was the last year of the Guangxu reign. The present lidded cup was probably not one of its best products, as the lid does not rest properly on the cup and tends to slip to one side.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Lidded cup, porcelain painted with floral sprays in underglaze blue, Qing dynasty, Guangxu period, Jiangxi Porcelain Company, Jingdezhen, ca. 1908\r\n","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Wilson, Ming, Rare marks on Chinese ceramics, London : Published by the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, in association with the Victoria and Albert Museum, 1998","id":"AUTH357696"},"details":"75","free":""}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"floral sprays","id":"x36456"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["FE.157B-1988","FE.157A-1988"],"accessionNumberNum":"157","accessionNumberPrefix":"FE","accessionYear":1988,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE","Lid","Cup"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-11","recordCreationDate":"2000-02-09","availableToBook":false}}
