The owner of this teapot preferred to use his style name 'Lodge of Bamboo and Rock'. Bamboo does not bend and rock does not change, so these two natural forms symbolised the character of a gentleman of principle.","physicalDescription":"A teapot of squat form, with a straight spout. It is decorated with two rows of moulded alternating large and small lappets filled with stylised floral designs. Flowerheads are placed between these pendant and upright lappets, and the pattern is repeated on the lid. A band of circular and diamond diapers embellishes the shoulders. On the flat base is an impressed mark Yunshi Ju (Lodge of Bamboo and Rock) in seal script within a double square.\r\nThe word 'yun' means 'the skin of bamboo' but is often used as an alternative word for 'bamboo'. Bamboo and rock were two things from nature that most scholars liked to compare themselves with.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"stoneware","id":"x30197"}],"techniques":[{"text":"moulded","id":"AAT53134"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Hand moulded stoneware","categories":[{"text":"Tea, coffee & chocolate wares","id":"THES48886"},{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Stoneware","id":"THES48890"}],"styles":[{"text":"Qing","id":"AAT18478"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2006AW2057","2006BG2853","2006AW2056"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"137","id":"THES49876"},"free":"","case":"14","shelf":"8","box":""},{"current":{"text":"137","id":"THES49876"},"free":"","case":"14","shelf":"8","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Teapot","id":""}],[{"text":"Lid","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Yixing","id":"x32221"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1700-1730","earliest":"1695-01-01","latest":"1730-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"9.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"with lid","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'Yunshi Ju' in seal script within a double square","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"Lodge of Bamboo and Rock","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Impressed mark on the base"}],"objectHistory":"Formerly C.
