The Venetian glass industry had declined by about 1800, but was revived in the 1860s. The lawyer, Antonio Salviati, founded a glasshouse with English backing in 1859, employing the best workmen to make pieces like these produced in Venice between 1500 and 1700. These were much admired, particularly in Germany and in England, where the writer, John Ruskin, condemned the fashion for cut glass because it obscured the ductile nature of the material.","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null}}],"partNumbers":["82:2-1870","82:1-1870"],"accessionNumberNum":"82","accessionNumberPrefix":"","accessionYear":1870,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE","Cover","Goblet"],"assets":["2019LP7036","2019LP6159","2019LT3720","2019LT1824","2019LX0381","2019LW9589"],"recordModificationDate":"2026-01-01","recordCreationDate":"2009-04-27","availableToBook":true}}
