Well known for his technical and stylistic eclecticism, here Shin works in the punch’ong slip-decoration technique, which developed in Korea in the 15th and 16th centuries.\r\n\r\nAfter throwing the jar, Shin has incised and stamped a range of boldly rendered strokes into the body. Next, he has coated the vessel with white slip (clay mixed with water), filling the incised designs. Wiping the excess slip from the body of the vase leaves only the inlaid slip decoration, reminiscent of a bird among wild grasses.
