There is a complex pattern of overlapping cartouches, formed by broad, stem-like lines which develop into floral sprays. Garlands of flowers cross some cartouches and some medallions are set within leaves and flowers. The outlines are in shadow work and the centres and all the ground are worked with a great variety of diaper and geometric patterns in pulled fabric work. At either end, the border has been extended by the addition of two pieces of much simpler, probably later, whitework.
