Before using the brush, the writer would prepare the ink by grinding an ink stick on an ink stone with a few drops of water dispersed from the dropper. \r\n\r\nThe wide variety of shapes and designs that characterise water droppers of the 18th and 19th centuries displays the imagination and wit of their makers and consumers. This dropper takes the shape of a coiled dragon amid clouds. It is painted in cobalt blue under the glaze.","physicalDescription":"Formed of two spheres and a small spout, the exterior composes a coiled dragon whose eyes and whiskers are accentuated in blue.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"porcelain","id":"AAT10662"}],"techniques":[{"text":"thrown","id":"AAT53908"},{"text":"carved","id":"AAT53149"},{"text":"incised","id":"AAT53847"},{"text":"painted","id":"AAT54216"},{"text":"glazed","id":"AAT53914"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Porcelain, thrown, carved, incised, painted and glazed","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Porcelain","id":"THES48907"},{"text":"Containers","id":"THES48972"}],"styles":[{"text":"Chosŏn","id":"AAT106675"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2009CD6773","2006AU4862"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"137 (VA)","id":"THES49876"},"free":"","case":"18","shelf":"7","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Water dropper","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Korea","id":"x30965"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1800-1850","earliest":"1800-01-01","latest":"1850-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Miss J.
