Produced during the early Joseon dynasty (1392-1910), this buncheong bottle is ornate using the inlay (sanggam) technique whereby its dry clay body was engraved with a design then the grooves filled with white slip. Once the glaze was applied, the bottle was fired to reveal the final design.","physicalDescription":"The pear-shaped bottle has a flaring mouth and shallow, uneven footring. The body is decorated in white inlay with a willow, a peony spray and a lotus spray. The neck is adorned with a band of overlapping lotus petals and a double line border is inlaid around the foot. The vessel is coated with a green-greyish glaze, and presents several firing faults around the body. \n\nColour: Greenish grey and white","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Stoneware","id":"x30197"},{"text":"Slip (white)","id":"x43133"},{"text":"glaze","id":"AAT15091"}],"techniques":[{"text":"thrown","id":"AAT53908"},{"text":"inlay (process)","id":"AAT53850"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Thrown and inlaid stoneware (buncheong)","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"}],"styles":[{"text":"Chosŏn","id":"AAT106675"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2006BG2846"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"003","id":"THES398968"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Bottle","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Korea","id":"x30965"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1400 - 1500","earliest":"1400-01-01","latest":"1500-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"30.9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"9.7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"foot","note":"Foot diameter: 9.7cm\r\nMouth diameter: 8.0cm"}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Buncheong wine bottle with flared mouth and long neck, inlaid in white with willow and floral motifs","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["FE.1-1981"],"accessionNumberNum":"1","accessionNumberPrefix":"FE","accessionYear":1981,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-04-01","recordCreationDate":"2000-02-03","availableToBook":true}}
