Its main design motifs are the dragons, phoenixes, and cranes, which are framed between bands of chrysanthemum, dotted circles, ruyi and lotus petals. In addition to these inlays the stand is highly important and unusual in displaying traces of the gold pigment that highlighted and complemented the linear elements of the decorative scheme.","physicalDescription":"Stand with deep sunk-in centre and broad flat flange, densely decorated with black and white sanggam inlay and covered with a celadon glaze. \r\nOn the flange are four phoenixes amongst flowers and foliage, framed between a ruyi band and a scrolled border. The inner wall of the sunk-in centre is decorated with four dragons chasing a flaming pearl, under a band of dotted circles. The base of the sunk-in centre is ornate with a pair of cranes, surrounded by a band of chrysanthemums. \r\nThe underside of the flange is decorated with cranes amongst clouds, and a scroll border near the rim. The outer side of the sunk-in centre has small phoenixes chasing flaming pearls above a band of lotus petals, and the footring is ornate with a band of dotted circles. \r\nIn addition to the inlaid floral and bird designs the bowl displays traces of the gold pigment that highlighted and uplifted the linear elements of the decorative scheme.\r\nThe whole surface is covered with a pale greenish-blue glaze and the foot has four silica spur marks. There are some firing faults (pittings) on the body.
