Used by women it is decorated with Buddhist and auspicious motifs embroidered in gold and silk thread. The character 'su', meaning 'long life', has been embroidered in gold above the central peony flower.","physicalDescription":"Pouch of red silk satin, secured with decorative green knotted cord. It is decorated with multi-coloured embroidery of rocks, waves, peony flowers and the 'long life' character. Lined with dark blue silk damask (diaper pattern).\n\nThis pouch carried small belongings when a woman was on an outing. Traditional costumes, or hanbok, do not have pockets, so separate pouches were necessary. This pouch has angular corners, but there are round-corner pouches as well. Used for keeping medicines, this pouch is covered in red on the outside and lined in blue on the inside. The outside is embroidered with lotuses, yeongji mushrooms, and waves, and a button and a green-coloured knot are attached to the folded part.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silk (textile)","id":"AAT243428"},{"text":"silk thread","id":"x30127"},{"text":"gold thread","id":"x30128"}],"techniques":[{"text":"satin weave","id":"x37324"},{"text":"embroidered","id":"AAT53653"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Satin silk, embroidered with silk and gold thread","categories":[{"text":"Embroidery","id":"THES48960"},{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Clothing","id":"THES48975"},{"text":"Accessories","id":"THES48998"}],"styles":[{"text":"Chosŏn","id":"AAT106675"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2006AU4943","2006AU4941"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES404720"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Purse","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Korea","id":"x30965"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1850-1900","earliest":"1850-01-01","latest":"1900-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Queen Mary","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Width","value":"10.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"12.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Registered File number 1924/5303.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"<i>Gwijumeoni</i>, a satin pouch, gold and silk embroidery, peony pattern, Korea, late Joseon dynasty, ca.1850-1900","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Beth McKillop. <u>Korean Art and Design</u>.
